Trigenics Technique
Have you heard of Trigenics? It is a fairly new method of treatment. The Trigenics Functional Neurology website defines it as “a neuro-kinetic, sensorimotor assessment, treatment and training system, which instantly relieves pain and increases strength and movement.”
To put it in simpler terms, Trigenics is a method of treatment that combines several different techniques in order to “train” the body to relieve pain. Patients who participate in these treatments are both mentally and physically interactive, as they make movements based on the direction of their physiotherapist, in order to generate neurological reflexes. This helps “rewire” certain reflexes in the brain so they become natural movements over time.
If you are living with pain or discomfort, Trigenics may greatly benefit you. Contact MEX Physio today to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced Milton, Oakville, Burlington, ON physiotherapists and get started on the first steps of your treatment plan.
How does Trigenics work?
As previously mentioned, there are a lot of different techniques that make up the method of Trigenics. It is known as a “multimodal treatment system,” meaning that multiple techniques help create a greater effect in the treatment of the patient. In fact, the Trigenics website describes this as not a treatment technique at all, but rather as a total full body assessment and treatment “system.”
The advanced Western knowledge of modern neurology is a large part of Trigenics: “By using the principles of reflexogenic neurophysiology, the “hardwiring” of the patient’s own body is being utilized as an integral part of the treatment and allows for a number of other positive benefits.” Essentially, Trigenics allows the nervous system of the patient to create new reflexes.
Another important part of the Trigenics Technique is manual or instrument-assisted soft-tissue manipulation, depending on the discretion of your physiotherapist. As opposed to other techniques of soft-tissue manipulation, Trigenics allows for a deeper penetration of tissue, therefore actually blocking pain signals altogether.
This is the part of Trigenics that most people tend to become a bit hesitant about – we frequently get questions asking “Will this hurt?” or “Will I feel pain afterwards?” In fact, this part of Trigenics should result in little to no discomfort. By blocking pain signals, our physiotherapists are able to deeply manipulate tissue to relieve tension, without the “jump response” that some other therapies may elicit.
